About Us

CWA Local 1183 represents approximately 900 active members employed by the New York City Board of Elections. Our members are essential to the integrity of New York City’s democratic process, carrying out the critical day-to-day work that ensures elections are fair, accurate, and accessible to all voters. From maintaining voter registration records and preparing ballots, to recruiting and training poll workers, operating and servicing voting equipment, and supporting poll sites across the five boroughs, BOE employees work year-round to keep elections running smoothly. Local 1183, part of the national Communications Workers of America, is committed to advocating for safe working conditions, fair wages, strong benefits, and dignity and respect on the job. Through collective action, contract enforcement, and dedicated representation, we stand united in protecting our members’ rights while strengthening the public service they proudly provide to New Yorkers.
